The 2014 AAPS Conference ended yesterday November 19th, 2014 in Cape Town, South Africa. AAPS is a network of 51 university-based planning programmes in Anglophone, Lusiphone and Francophone Africa. For the first time the AAPS conference held every two years opened its doors to partners and key stakeholders in the built environment. In recent years AAPS has grown rapidly to became the new champions and torch for Africa’s future.
AAPS is dedicated to planning education, which produces professionals who believe in social and spatial justice and environmental sustainability as are well equipped to deal with the key issues of 21st century Africa cities.
Conference Format: The conference focused on the central themes and problems of African cities. It focused on research and practice examples, which shape our understanding of these issues, and how planning curricula can respond to them. Each of the three days consisted of a keynote speaker to provide a plenary address, followed by two parallel streams culminating into sub-plenary panel discussions.
